I was involved in an auto accident. I was rear ended by a drunk driver. My muscles were tight in my neck and shoulders. The highest my blood pressure ever was before the accident was 160's/99ish. When I went to the doctor for my neck and back, my blood pressure was 285ish/135ish. I have never had it that high before in my life! The doctor took and X-ray and then sent me to the cardiologist. The cardiologist had me wear a heart monitor for two weeks and then get an echocardiogram. I take two beta blockers and two lisinoprils daily. Now, a year later, the man's insurance has not paid for any of my medical bills or any compensation. I keep getting the run around. There is always something missing. Something new every time. I am in the process of starting a law suit and am hoping to get all of my medical expenses paid. I do believe that whip lash could be related to high blood pressure.

I am in the same boat, my blood pressure had been normal all my life. I was rear-ended last year and since that very day my bp increased. The day after the accident it was 220ish / 112, a long way up on 120/70. I had a back ache and headaches for around 6 weeks and now continue to be bp drugs. My sleep patterns are now all over the place and the insurance company keep asking for evidence that nobody has. I believe your high bp is related to the whiplash and by reading online, it seems that we are not alone. It appears it may be to do with blood circulation becoming restricted by thickening walls following minor damage to vessels in the neck may be the cause. Investigating more still. Good luck with your case.
Hello mitchst.  Thanks for writing into our forum.  Absolutely there seems to be a connection with neck pain, whiplash and high blood pressure.  There are ongoing studies looking into this.  Here's an article http://www.bpassoc.org.uk/can-whiplash-cause-high-blood-pressure/  And this article:  https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/08/070802090711.htm  Have you considered physical therapy or chiropractic care for your neck?
