Hello,
In May I had an MRI of my cerivical spine for pain that radiates down both arms. This MRI showed what was termed a Hydromyelia at c6-c7 vertebrae. The size is 8mm long and 1-2mm wide. I also had an MRI in 2006 of my cervical spine for body wide fasciculations (muscle twitching) and it showed this Hydromyelia. From then to now the cyst has not changed in size. I had not pain whatsoever up until about a year ago. Could this be the source of my pain even though the cyst has not changed in size. This last MRI aslo noted cerebellar tonsillar ectopia or mild Chiari of about 4-5mm below the foramen magnum with not craniocervical stenosis or no blunting of the tonsils. Thank you very much
It is difficult to say whether the hydromyelia is the cause of pain, since there is no change in size. But, definitely there is some pressure on the cervical spinal nerves. Please ask your doctor whether a nerve conduction study or EMG would be diagnostic in your case. Sometimes these detect a radiculopathy not apparent on MRI. Take care!
