Hi,
How are you?
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome or NMS is a neurological disorder which occurs due to an adverse reaction to a neuroleptic agent. The prognosis depends on early diagnosis and prompt treatment. If the treatment is started early this is not usually fatal.
Many cases require intensive care with circulatory and ventilatory support. I think your doctor is right, you just need to wait. I can understand your concern but it is very difficult to give concrete answers.
However, If she responds to treatment she can be cured completely. Take care!
Thank you for the reply! I believe that this (NMS) was caught early so I am hopeful but my wife is showing effects that the Dr's are concerned with. Over the past week she had shown signs of improvement but in the last couple of days she slipped back into this catatonia. This same thing happened 2 weeks ago, is this common? A patient improves and then regresses?
Thoughts?
