5 years ago I was diagnosed with a spontaneous left vertebral artery dissection, intracranial. I did not have a stroke, just extreme head and neck pain for about six weeks. I was followed by vascular neurology and on baby aspirin for two years. Repeat imaging showed complete healing. I was told this was rare and that it would likely never happen again so I went on with my life. Three weeks ago I had the same kind of head and neck pain and was diagnosed with a right internal carotid artery dissection, extracranial. No stroke. I am now on full strength aspirin, probably for life. Both dissections involved tremendous pain and I'm still recovering right now. I spent some time in the hospital for both but was not really given much information other than this is rare. I'm now going to have an autoimmune disease work up. My anxiety is pretty high because both of these were spontaneous and I was already very cautious due to the first one. I'm just not really sure where to go for information. Does anybody have any resources they can share?
