Lumbar syrinx

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice? I recently had an incidental MRI and the doctor discovered a lumbar syrinx at T12,3mm x 1.75mm. He advised monitoring it and taking pain killers. No other advise. The doctor was a pain consultant. I didn't see a neurosurgeon, but his opinion was that I should be glad it's not my imagination! I'm finding it very difficult to get information on a lumbar syrinx. What should I do? Any advise would be appreciated! Thanks

Hi,,,many with Syringomyelia or a syrinx may also have Chiari Malformation so as a result u can find others with this condition in the Chiari forum here on MedHelp....

http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/257?camp=msc

A syrinx can be the result of an injury to the area the syrinx is located or an obstruction to CSF flow.....

We do have a list of activities to avoid with Chiari or Syringomyelia in the Health Pages attached to the neuro and Chiari forums.

Hi!
You can google spine syringomyelia for better results. Syrinx and syringomyelia are the same.
If the symptoms are only pain and there are no other issues of spine compression such as numbness, tingling, weakness etc, and the pain is managed well with pain killers, then your doctor may advise a wait and watch policy. However, you must avoid strenuous activities and high impact sports at all cost. Also, please consult a neurologist. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
