Dural Root

Hi, I had my yearly MRI to check the progression of my MS. The MRI'S consisted of the head, cervical and lumbar areas. I always get a copy for my own records.Noted on the lumbar MRI is a Dural Root Sleeve Disc Cyst. Could you tell me exactly what that is and what causes it ? Is it something I should be concerned with ?
My doctor didnot mention this to me so I am very curious about it.

Thank you, MJ

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Discal cysts occur in the lumbar spine and are extremely rare. It is still not clear how and why these cysts occur. These cysts are intraspinal and communicate with the intervertebral disc. The cysts can put pressure on the nerve roots and cause tingling and numbness in the lower extremity. The treatment depends upon the severity of symptoms and if the symptoms are severe usually microendoscopic resection of cyst is done.
Take care!
