PLEASE RESPOND SEVERE MUSCLE TWITCHING

I had a terrible headache, with no history of prior headaches, that lasted 3 days.  The pain was behind my ear, and radiated into the ear.  Since the headache went away, I began experiencing some mild facial pain/tingling sensations and now am having muscle twitches most nights, when trying to sleep.

They start usually in my leg, than maybe my finger will jump, than my foot will jump, than my shoulder, and so on.  They are not painful, but I become extremely anxious when this happens.  I don' t know if this is actually muscle twitching, because the sensations are more of a jumping feel, which than makes me feel startled.. Any answers??? I have become extemely anxious and my doctor just put me on Affexor.  I had a normal MRI, CT Scan and MRA of the brain.  All bloodwork is fine and I had a neurological exam, all OK.  I am worried about ALS to the point that it is consuming my thoughts 24 hours a day.  PLEASE HELP ME.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my conerns.  The twitches are mostly at night, but also come and go during the day.  I think I have been completely stressed and anxious lately, because when I looked up muscle twitching, so much is out there on ALS.  I am now worried that I may have some of the onset symptoms of ALS.  Would my neurological exam be normal if I was experiencing symptoms caused by ALS?  I would greatly appreciate your opinion so I can hopfully stop this worrying.  Thank you so much.

Hello.

You should read about "Hypnagogic jerk" or myoclonic twitch.

Hypnagogic jerks are normal. They appear when you are trying to sleep. When you are going from superficial sleep in to the deeper stages, the body muscles get jerks. This is a normal relaxation process.

How was your headache? Was it related to any work stress ?

If you are stressed and deprived of sleep, you will get more jerks. So, relax. Take this opportunity to reflect back upon your lifestyle. You might just discover some nagging source of stress.

Regards
