Stressing out and getting no answers

Hi everyone,
I'm feeling pretty desperate and am hoping that I may find some answers here as all I get from neurology and family doctor are shoulder shrugs. About a month ago, I woke up one day with strange tingling in both my legs and weakness and numbness in my left leg. It didn't hurt so I just ignored it for about a week. I have an old and known back issue with 2 herniated discs so when the tingling started in my groin I got worried and went to ER. I had a spinal MRI which showed no spinal cord compression although I had confirmed weakness and was referred to a neurologist ASAP.

After having EMG and ruling out peripheral neuropathy and a brain MRI which was normal and a plethora a blood work which was all normal, the neurologist said " weird"

I tried going back to work which failed miserably. I had developed word finding difficulty, pain in my eyes, the right side of my face goes numb and the legs continue to tingle like mad. My hands and arms started to tingle as well.

The trick is I have 1) bilateral symptoms and 2) no consistency. Some days I hve cognitive issues and face numbness another I have bilateral leg tingling and headache. Everyday there's symptoms but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to any of it. I also experience fatigue with any activity be it mopping or walking. My symptoms seem to be made worse with driving, reading, conversation, attempting any type of multitasking, or any activity.

My mom has MS and was diagnosed at age 32. I am currently 35. My family doctor says he doesn't believe this could be MS since the symptoms are bilater and came up with a diagnosis of " concussion without head injury" because he said nothing else fits.

Any ideas or information anyone has would be helpful. I'm very sick and tired of being sick and tired and would really like to get on a treatment regime that will help me get back to living.

I have outstanding an evoked potentials test.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

My husband has been going through the similar symptoms you have. Back in January of this month, out of the blue he started having indigestion mainly heartburn with chest pain. Couple days later his left arm went numb. We went and saw the doctor and they ran all the tests for heart since we thought it was heart related. Everything came out fine. He still had heartburn and few days later that his fingers on BOTH hands started tingling. That went away after couple weeks. We went to a gastrointestionologist to check out his indigestion and the doctor asked him if he had any VIRAL infection in January but we couldn't think of anything.  The doctor did say he a virus could have caused all this. He is due to do a endoscopy on his stomach this coming Tuesday. Last Thursday, he had this prickly numb feeling on the right side of this face for a few hours. We went to his physician yesterday and I asked him if his symptoms have anything to do with MS. Just like your doctor, he said that is not possible because his symptoms (tingling) is bilateral. I am glad to know that the doctor doesn't think it is anything bad but we still don't have a definite answer. Did you get a MRI and spinal tap done for MS? Our doctor says none of that is necessary because of his bilateral symptoms. Please keep me posted on your update. Looks like you and my husband are taking the same journey and hopefully with GOD's grace you guys both will come out healthy.

Many, many people in these discussion forums have experiences similar to yours. Many of them noticed the symptoms after they experienced a virus or flu.

I hope their discussions are as helpful to you as they have been to me.

Thanks to everyone for the responses,

I am not taking any medications. All of my symptoms appeared within a day of having a gastroenteritis bug. The neurologist tested me for any virus/bacteria that is known to cause neurological symptoms which were all normal.

I have never experienced a migraine. I've had bad headaches but never why I would call unmanageable. My mother gets bad headaches with her MS exacerbations but otherwise, no migraines run in the family.

I have my last test booked for May, evoked potential, then reassess by the neurologist. Maybe there I will finally get some answers

Thanks for everyone's help. Maybe I'm just " weird".

Nursemel123,
Have you started any new supplements or medications recently?

Have you recently recovered from a virus?

Wow, I have a,kind of similar situation.  Mine started with left arm/leg weakness face tingling then two weeks later right side tingling numbness hands feet. Feel fatigued. I made mistake of googling twitches when i had a couple and then body exploded in twitches everywhere and still there.  My tingling numbness switches sides of body. I had MRI of brain, spinal tap, numerous blood test and several heart tests.  All negative. Saw Neurologist he ran me through a clinical exam and said he didn't see anything alarming.

He ordered an MRI of neck.  That is where I stand.  Been 5 weeks now. I haven't gotten worse actually fatigue getting so much better but this tingling switching sides of my body is very frustrating

I agree with your neurologist, it is a bit weird. Don't you think so?
Good that they could rule so many things out at least.
Can it be migraines? Do you have migraines in the family?
Something Post-traumatic? Did you recently experience something chocking?
Infection?
Yea, it is weird..

I'm so sorry you feel so bad. "Weird" is not a diagnosis. If I were you I would go back to the doc and ask him for a second opinion as the first was no help whatsoever. Be assertive. This is your body and you need to get it sorted. Good luck
