swollen temples

Hello,

I had hyperthyroid a couple of years back and been treated with radio active iodine medication in september 2010. And looking at my swolen eyes the doctor said I have graves disease. Since november 2010 my thyroid conditions have changed and I now have hypothyroid. Ever since the transformation of thyroid levels I have gained almost like 20 pounds of weight. Along with that I was having swollen temples when the weather is cold, if i eat anything hard or if i get a bit excited. This was not staying for longer time(hardly few minutes). Now I have been noticing swolen temples quite frequently and staying for days. and causing head pains frequently. I am not sure if this is because of graves disease or my thyroid.

I politely disagree with tschock, my husband was diagnosed with Graves, had the radioactive iodine, and just like you has the issue with the swelling temples.  It is no coincidence that it is after the treatment.  Did you ever learn how to get rid of it?

Swollen temples can be caused by many things, including over use of jaw muscles when chewing. This is generally accompanied by headaches.

This sounds like what you are suffering from by the description you gave.
I don't think it's caused by either disease directly.
