Do I have neuropathic pain? HELP

Hi!!
I went to several neurologists that told me I don't have Neuropathic pain, after I did a normal EMG, a normal MRI, etc- Everyone told me that my symptoms are phsicosomatic, and know I'm doing treatment with a phiquiatric. What I ask is:

After this treatment based on 3 x Valiums (10mg), 2 anti-depressives, 1 anti-psicorit, the pain was almost gone. What can I conclude from this? Is it realy psicologic? Or should I do the Skin Byopsy exam?

Thanks

Well, I suppose it's possible if you're depressed, that alone can cause the body to feel painful.  You get in a rut, your body gets run down, and everything hurts.  BUT if you have pain just in your legs, for example, then could be you wrenched your spine somehow.  That can cause all sorts of problems.  So, if the pain is just in your legs, or just in your arms, for example, and if the MRI was just of your brain, you also need to have a CAT scan of your spine, to make sure that isn't causing your pain.

If your pain is everywhere, while it might not be neuropathy, it might be fibromyalgia, for example, which is considered a disability by Social Security, and there are specific meds you should be taking for it.  But your neurologists should have determined by now if that's what you got.  Still, you can look online for it and there are "pressure points" in the body, that if you push on them and they hurt, and more than half are this way, you could have fibromyalgia.

One other idea is, since Valium helped you, could be your body is all tensed up for some reason, and thus you should try getting some professional massage treatments, see if that helps you feel even better than you do now.  But in the end, since you are also taking anti-depressants and they are helping you, it could very well be pain from depression.  I do not know what skin biopsy you're referring to is, so I cannot comment on whether you should have that done.

Thank you for your comment.

My symptoms are te ones described by people who have small fibers neuropathies. For intances I start felling a burning sensasion on both my arms in the beginning, dued to a stupid exercice with dumbells made at home. I felt an electric shock on my elbow and I continuing doiing it until the bue begins.

What I would like to know is: is it normal that taking an axiety pill take your pain away? Or antidepresssive pills? And Why does it hurts only if I moved my arms? or how did the pain expanded to my whole body only after an MRI. It's been 6 month, and I don't know if my symptoms are real anymore.

As for the skin biopsy, it is the only way I have to know if I hava small fibers neropathy.

As for the massage, it realy hurt me a lot. They though it was a problem in my tendons and made me a Tui-ná massage (very deep and strong) of my whole body.

Thank you

Filipe

To answer your questions, anxiety pills or tranquilizers make a person relax.  So, if a person is tensed up from pain, it makes them feel better.  And the reason an antidepressant might help is because if you do have depression, then depression can make the whole body hurt, as I posted previously.  As for your arms hurting, since you tore up your elbow lifting weights, you could have also pulled muscles in your shoulders and neck at the same time, so both arms are gonna hurt, along with your upper body, because the nerves go out from the neck into the arms and shoulders.

I think you could go ahead and have that small fiber neuropathy biopsy done, if a doc thinks you should and if it would help you feel better about the situation, too.  I'm glad you had a massage, it was SUPPOSED to hurt, but it takes several sessions to get all the tension out of your body, to where it doesn't hurt anymore when they rub you out.  And as to psychiatrists and antidepressants, hopefully that's just a temporary thing until you can get past your sports injury.  Injuries can really wreck your day, takes some getting used to, and pain is always hard to deal with.  I hope you get well soon.
