You might find some relief on my diary. i broke my nech on November 29th, 2010 and I'm completely recovered http://november29.typepad.com/november-29/
Hi Mickey,
I broke my neck C 6 & 7 April 16th 2003. It does get better to some degree. But everyone is different. You do learn to live with the changes. I still have good days and bad days. I have worked very hard to be able to walk again. I work but only a cpl of days a week. It is great that Terri is able to do it without any pain medications. But not everyone is so lucky. Some days I don't take any but other days it just hurts to bad. You just have to learn what works for you. Some things that might work for me may not work for you. My neck didn't heal to my screws like they were supposed to. So the chiropractor is out of the question for me. If I were to have another car wreck or get bucked off my horse it could kill me. But that WILL never stop me. They main thing is find what works for you and live you life to the fullest. That is the best medicine. At least it is for me.
Mickey, I broke my neck in 1980. C4, C5, C6 and C7 are fused. C5-C7 are wired. I had a bone embedded in a nerve. It took me 2 years to recover. The things I have learned is that to build the muscles in the body are the most important thing to help prevent pain. Pain medication, muscle relaxers are a viscious cycle. A good chiropractor is a must, yes I get adjusted. I would recommend one who uses a thermal scan, that shows when there are trapped nerves. Almost 30 years later (and 5 auto accidents) I have to take a few pain pills, but went years with none. That is also a good way to know what is really going on (if there is something else) pain medication masks so many other problems. I detox myself every few years to see what other problems I have. Nuerotin is highly addictive, I would not recommend it. I take a lot of supplements, I wish I had started 30 years ago, I have just started some that the Chiropractor said will help with the muscle spasms, I take Soma (short term only) and wanted something natural. I take Norweigan Cod Liver Oil (Walmart) for inflamation, plus prescription Mobic. It helps alot. (Make sure to shake bottle before taking!) The Chriopractor I see also has a water pillow, it is the best $40 I have spent and I have spent a lot on pillows, trying to get the right one. Good Luck to you and your husband. One more thing, I have seen numerous doctors over the years and something I read recently is that when it comes to your pain you have to be the "Captain of the Ship" and that is very true. Good Luck!
