Hi,
It is important to look into psychological causes also like anxiety, fear, and also physical causes like narrow throat passage, esophageal pain, and esophageal spasm. It is important that she undergoes esophageal motility studies, incase she has not undergone those studies already.
Please check the link below it has some information on Voice and Swallowing center of Maine which may be helpful.

Thanks
I had "esophageal motility" test done and a "impedence test done at the endosopy unit The Methodist Hospital in Houston. My Gastroenterologist, Grechen Urgan ordered it.
She has a special interest and does all the research as well for Baylor.
Let me know if you need more information. In the mean time stay away from salads.

She needs a swallow specialist. This is a difficult problem with many possible etiologies. Ask her physician to consider prescribing a calcium-channel blocker. Sometimes this solves the problem.
