dystonia

I need to know where in this country you can get Botox injections for someone with severe dystonia.  From what I understand, a "team" of doctors is needed in the case of my friend, who gets them from head to toe to help with seizures.  The last course of treatment didn't seem to "take" due to the muscles not being properly prepared. Since then, the team has moved to Indiana.  He is in severe pain and curled up and is 100% disabled.  After these injections, he is much better and can do for  himself.  We are in Arkansas, and the appointment schedule at UAMS is so full, they cannot see him at all.  We would travel anywhere to help alleviate his suffering.  Even though the other treatment didn't take, he had to wait because the chemical was still in his system.  Any suggestions you could give would be appreciated.

Hi there!

I agree with the previous posts that a team of doctors is not necessary to administer botox.  It should take one neurologist to administer a dose and there should not be any problems.  I think it is best to inquire with your friend's neurologist as they usually have a network among their fellow doctors and refer you to someone close to your friend's place.

I hope your friend will do well. Regards...

I have dystonia as well. Was diagnosed a year ago after a short-term treatment for infertility. The "episodes" are extremely painful and come only about once a month, once every other month. My neurologist has me on .5 mgs. of Klonopin which holds me. Like I said, I do however get "break-through episodies" once a month or every other month. What is your friend on??? I thought I was the only one with this painful condition. I hope he is all right.

I've had botox for dystonia, and I did not have a TEAM of doctors;  just had ONE doctor, a neurologist, who did the injections!
