Hi there. Did you sustain any trauma to the back recently that could have caused prolapsed lumbar or cervical disc and some local tissue injury ? This could cause muscle spasms causing the movement. There are certain causes responsible for muscle twitching like diet deficiency, drug overdose, and side effects of diuretics, corticosteroids, estrogens, exercise, benign twitches, and nervous system conditions like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, muscle dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and myopathy. Your neurologist needs to look into these conditions one by one. The other possible cause could be multiple sclerosis and is a diagnosis of exclusion. Restless leg syndrome also needs to be looked into. Hope these speculations help. Take care.
A few things. There are several spots on your body where you can put pressure and make yourself twitch or jolt or all that. More curious and reckless kids tend to find most of em, but a few always weasal away until youre paniced, just to keep you on your toes (Ive posted before, the sympathetic nervous system is a jerk.)
In any event, theres a few things to try before worrying. Is there any good outside reason, like trauma to that portion of your body, that would indicate a problem? the trauma would likely be very isolated (like a red lump or somesuch in a single area.)
Second, are you doing anything weird in positioning. if Im laying on my back and tensing my leg muscles before bed while..doing pre bed straining things lets say...i can end up with horrificly painful but fleeting foot/toe cramps. If I lay on my right elbow in jus the right spot i can send my whole torso shaking. but that stops when pressure is removed instantly. (thats the place with the thing they call the funny bone, that bone thats not at ALL funny when you hit it. People who named these things are jerks.)
and third, are you dehydrated? MIGHT you be dehydrates I should say? Glitchy things like random twitches especially in extremities can be caused by lots of stuff, but rather than jump to any odd conclusions, try relaxing, taking pressure off parts of you that accompany it, and have something to drink (not alcohol.) If your problems persist, you may want to see a doctor.
But for now if its only the leg cramps and twitchig? No cause for immediate alarm. Keep an eye on it, relax, and make sure youre not doing something weird but obvious. For al ong time, id end up with grossly swelled legs because of a misplaced bolt in my computer chair that was in the perfect spot to cause that. And I mean, "my feet wont fit in my shoes" type swollen.
Bodies are weird and often mean and possibly evil, but usually theres some problem that becomes immediatly obvious once ya figure it out. Until then though, it can be very weird. If it goes on for some time after that, a regular GP would be the place to go.
