managing mollarets

is it possible that my boyfriend who gets cold sores is infecting me with the virus causing me to break out even though i'm taking 1 gram of valtrex a day for mollarets  he also takes it for breakouts, i worry that we keep giving it back and forth to each other i am very careful about skin contact and anything else that i think the virus is living on like bedding the sink we share etc. please help me i have had viral menengitis 8 times in 22 years and its reoccuring more frequently and more aggressivly than ever i'm so sick of feeling like i have the flu every day its affecting my life hugely because i get so sick with flu like symptoms that i can't work  if any one has any sggestions i need help bad thanks t.j.

do you think a neurologist could help me with my meningitis in any way? also i was told to go to the mayo next time i get it do you think they will be able to help me or am i doing every thing i can by taking the valtrex

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Yes it is quite possible that you are getting Mollaret’s due to cold sores from oyur boyfriend. Cold sores are caused by HSV 1 and 2. This virus spreads by direct contact or through bodily fluids.
HSV can also cause aseptic meningitis like Mollaret’s. I would suggest you to share this concern with your boyfriend and then both of you can discuss this issue with your treating doctor.
