NO he did not get this from you OR your Husband, as Selma explained a Syrinx or Syringomyelia can be congenital, as a result of trauma or like most can be due to a condition called Chiari Malformation (pronounced Ke-ar-e) where part of the brain near the base of the scull herniates, this obstructs the flow of CSF (the fluid that flows around the brain & spinal cord) and can cause a Syrinx to form. A syrinx is a Cyst or cavity in the center of the spinal cord.

We have a support community here for ppl with CM & SM :)

Hi a syrinx can be congenital...there since birth or it can be from the result of an injury....a fall...etc...

May I ask, did ur DS also have a Brian MRI?...I wonder if it is congenital if he might have chiari as well....they can co -exist...

We do have a forum for Chiari and Syringomyelia here on MedHelp-http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Chiari-Malformation/show/257?camp=msc

I invite u to join us : )
