neuropathy in legs

I have peripheral neuropathy in both of my legs from the hip down. It is a stabbing needle like sensation and it never goes away. I was on 150 mg of pulse steroids and then 60 mg a day for eight weeks. This occurred at the same time I developed Hashimoto's thyroiditis-encephalitis. Because of the steroids, I developed severe pain and weakness in my muscles especially in the legs. How long before I get better? Does steroids usually give you stabbing needle pain in your legs?

Thanks for commenting on my questions. I had this neuropathy before I started taking steroids but it wasn't constant so it can't be the steroids. My endocrine problems are under control now. I am taking B12 but nothing is doing anything. Do u have any other ideas what this can be? I am getting off the steroids and it seems to b gettig worse.

Hello sportynik ,
The withdrawal of steroid drugs has to be gradual.You should consult your neurophysician and as these drugs might cause neuropathy.Also thyroiditis could be causing the neuropathy. Treatment apart from the medications includes physiotherapy., the use of a TENS machine or acupuncture. Each of these may be of benefit, depending on individual circumstances. Ensure that you persevere with the B12 injections.
