after 2 years of asking why my son ( he was a full term twin) walks on his tip toes, i was unsatisfied with the pediatrician saying he will grow out of it. i went to a pediatric physical therapist who after an evaluation said that there were some balance issues, abdominal weakness, and tightness in his legs. not to shocking. i told the pediatrician what i had done and she sent us to a ped ortho sugeon. with a horrible bed side manner she ordered us DAFO braces. she also said " do you see any adult walking on their tip toes? no, because they figure out that you dont walk that way and stop" still no x-rays or any pictures. continued therapy without a diagnosis for 8 months. after having a wetting episode when having some stretches done at pt it was suggested to see a ped nuero. ( he also has chronic constipation) . in the meantime we figured out that he has some sensory processing issues. the neuro ordered an MRI and finally a tethered cord. am waiting to see them to get more details. will probably require surgery. told the ped ortho surgeon. got the feeling that she looks and feels like an incompetant ***. he is now 5. feel like i have failed him, even though everyone including our family thought that i was picking at nothing. any suggestions? is surgery dangerous. will it hurt him to wait a few months due to staring school? can he still play soccer this fall?
