rehabilitation period after spine surgery

I had undergone dorsal spine surgery to remove compression on spinal cord at D-8 D-9 &  D-9 D-10 level. Surgery was done on 13.08.2010. After more than three months still I feel heaviness in abdomen, hips and legs. I could not walk without walker. Kindly guide me how much time is generally taken for recovery to enable me to walk properly?

Hi there. Your neurosurgeon is the best person to check up for the causes for delay in recovery. He might want to have a relook/ re examine you and ask for a repeat mri  to check the status of tissues. People differ in the way they respond to illnesses, surgical insult and its healing. So its very difficult to generalise these things. I hope you are also in touch with a physiotherapist if there has been no contraindication. Take care.

Following the removal of a meningioma at T5 I have been given various time scales for recovery  from 9  to 18 months. Be patient said my surgeon. After 5 months I still have nerve pain and am on medication for it. However, I am on my feet and can live a reasonably active life where before the operation I was unable to walk. I am grateful. Just HAVE PATIENCE! I think we are a rare breed. I have struggled to find any one to compare notes with.
