Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor.
Without the ability to examine and obtain a history from your husband, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is other than he has alcohol abuse. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.
First of all, your husband needs to seek help (i.e., alcohol abuse program).
Alcohol abuse can present in many different ways. There are minor symptoms such as insomnia, tremulousness (which may be what you are you seeing with your husband), anxiety, headache, palpitations, sweating, etc. These symptoms may be present within a few hours after the last drink. However, if the symptoms occur and do not resolve, other symptoms may occur such as hallucinations, generalized tonic-clonic seizures (i.e., grand mal seizures), and delirium tremens (or DTs).
Alcoholism is a serious health hazard. If a patient develops DTs, the mortality is as high as 5%.
Again, I highly recommend that your husband seek help to quit drinking in a controlled environment.
Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
