suggestion for father

My father is 75 yrs old and in good health.  One week ago, he experienced horizontal double vision and has had a severe headache since then.  He did go to the eye doctor who said his eye was fine.  He also went to the ER and had tests run (MRI etc) and the hospital advised him all tests were normal.  They did discover a low heart rate during sleep and he went to a heart doctor yesterday who wants him to go to a sleep apnea clinic.  (He snores like a freight train)

Due to his age and the sudden onsite and continued symptons, I am trying to find some advice or information of possible diagnosis.   The doctor(s) he is seeing have such a non challant attitude and I believe he needs to find a resource that is interested in figuring out what really is going on.  Any suggestions on what direction we might pursue?  He has worn glasses his whole life.  Eats well, exercises regularly, no trauma incurred, just woke up a week ago with these symptons.  It is bad enough that he won't drive.  Many thanks

thank you very much for taking the time to provide this information.  I'll pass along to my mom and get started on his change of diet.

Double-vision may be due to an aneuyrism, but this has been ruled out.

The most common cause is palsy of the third cranial nerve, secondary to diabetic neuropathy. Blood sugars out of control.

On the first time, it usually resolves within three months on it's own.

Treatment is ibuprufin for the headache and he must wear a patch over one eye.

And metformin to lower the glucose levels.

Plus a diet low in carbs, no sugars or fruit juices.

He should have what is called an hba1c test and get a glucose meter.
