Hi I am Dr.Dadke wants your help for my 67 years old father. He had osteoporotic compression fracture of L4. The event happand in Jun,2010 (4 month's back). We took him to orthopadic surgeon. He analysed the matter through digital x-ray, MRI, Lab Investigations for calcium and CBC. Inspite of four month's treatment by various orthopadic surgeons and other pathy like  Homeopathy,Naturopathy,Unani,Physiotherapy and Electropathy my father could not get relief from unsustainable pains in his back up to knee joint. Best thing you can do for your mother is have her lay flat for about four weeks.  She will have to use a bedpan, you will have to wash her skin so it doesn't get dirty, and she MUST lay on a very comfortable bed with either a foam topping or an air mattress  so she doesn't get bed sores. She can have a little pillow under her knees, but always keep it there.

One of the docs she went to should prescribe one month's prescription for a very strong opiate drug, they are cheap, and when you ge to the fourth week, cut her pills in half, and keep up with those until she run out of medicine. Then when the ftith week starts, with the help of two people, she can get up out of bed, stand there until she's about to pass out, then back down again.  next day, again, only walk a few steps and then back.  Keep it up, until she can walk a city block and back, and be able to go to the bathroom by herself, and take a shower.  This treatment will "heal" compression fracture of the L4 vertebrae, but it will still hurt for about six more months. Buy a tea that's good for pain and she should drink it it daily. If no tea, a half glass of wine at lunch.

Now, this stenosis, I'm very surprised they didn't want to operate on that., but it could be that will improve when she begins physical therapy.  PT is strengthenining exercises for her legs and tummy, walks, stretching.  She is crying because she is in pain.  This pain affects the personality in a very negative way. That's why she MUST have pain killers until she heals.

She needs drink lots of water whilst in the bed, fiber foods like salads and fresh vegies and fresh bread, try to find some prunes for daily consumption, and this is because the opiates will stop up her digestion.  Again, find a tea for stool softening.  I had compression fractures, three, in my thoracic spine, so I know what she's goig thru.  The paiin killers and laying still will help her the most, but she'll want something to do,like read, visitors, watch TV, make a big deal out of "tea time" and have it around 4 p.m., dinner around 7 p.m, and breakfast whens he gets up, which she should have oatmeal cereal.
