First of all my opinions are my own.
(1) Do not get the surgery until you have lost weight.
(2) Re-read number (1)
Surgery is not a cure-all.
Losing weight is difficult, but losing weight may be all you need, together with appropriate physical therapy, to solve the herniated disc problem.
You have to understand that surgeons are salespeople, just like in used car lots, and they sell operations.
A laminectomy should be a "last-ditch" solution.
And "losing weight" should go to the head of the "solutions" line.
Eat less. That's square one.
Perhaps you need a personal nutritional consultant.
But heading to the surgery option before reducing weight is pretty silly.

Hello,
Slipped disc in the lower back is frequently caused due to excess weight. It canalso be damaged due to improper posture and exercise, which also might be the possibility in your case.
As far as your surgery is concerned, in the hands of an experienced surgeon, these procedures are regular and carry minimal risk. However, you may ask the surgeon to explain in detail about it and can also get back here with the exact details of the procedure for more information.
It is better to start your weight loss program, especially the physical exercise part after the back surgery. Exercise puts strain on the back and can cause damage to already damaged spine. Swimming is probably the only safe thing for you currently.
Weight gain is both because of the calories you consume as well as the lack of physical exercise. So, you may currently start cutting calories, consume only as much as you can burn.
