white matter lesion adjacent to DVA

MRI revealed white matter lesion in close proximity to prominent right frontal DVA.  Myelin Basic Protein elevated @ 4.5-- normal range 0-3. Homozygous for abnormal 5,10 MTHFR C677T mutation.  MS ruled out.  Possible ischemia, 1 dr. thinks migraine w/ aura - with no headache.  Visual disturbances periodically, loss of lower field of vision once for approx 20 minutes, tingling in right hand, face.  Odd sensations-- feeling as though someone pulling rings off fingers, something "running through" hands
Referred to stroke specialist.
Ideas???

Thank you for your reply.  The tingling, numbness, electric shock sensations are in the right arm/hand & the white matter lesion & Venous angioma are in right, front part of brain-- wouldn't right side stroke affect left side of body?

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
There is a good possibility that you suffered from stroke as suggested by your symptoms of loss of vision, numbness and electric shock like sensations in the arms. Also white matter lesion in the brain can occur in stroke.
CSF myelin basic protein is a non specific measurement and is seen in inflammatory and destructive conditions of brain. It is not specific for MS.
Please go ahead with the stroke referral and let us know if you have any other questions.
