Your problem is so simple to be resolve on internet !!!
Please note that you are taking now an opinion of a neurosurgeon and not a neurologist !
It will be too serious if once you will have motor weakness (caused by postponing the real treatment), Amitriptiline- mainly acting antidepression, less on the sleeping and less as a muscle relaxant, is not an appropriate treatment for disc bulging for example, it will cause simply masking of the progressing state. I would rather stand on the opinion of your GP who was quiet objective, and asked for MRI.
From what you told me it seems that you are telling me of a cervical spine compression because of a spondylosis; MYELOPATHY means damage of the main group of nerves called spinal cord, whereas RADICULOPATHY means a damage of the single nerve nearby the spinal cord.
A small problem was ( in my opinion ) what led to that prolonged history of pain, is that you were not sent to a neurosurgeon at all !
I would rather ask you to download your spine MRI images to allow me a real judgment of your case.
best of luck
Dr Nassim
