Statins for carotid artery blockage

My right internal carotid artery has 50-69% stenosis and, in ultrasounds, has been the same numbers for 5 years.  My neurologist says I dont have to do anything.  My primary Dr. has me taking Lipitor for about that same amount of time for lowering cholesterol.  Does Lipitor or any statin help prevent further carotid artery blockage?

Hi Mara,
do you remember if you had a sever neck trauma one day in the past ?
latest studies may be helpfull, "Rosuvastatin" may be a well studied statin to improve the atheromatic plate you have inside your carotid artery, please find your local drug containing this substance

Thanks for your info.  In the U.S. it's called, 'Crestor'.  I'll ask my neurologist  about it.
I appreciate your help.

Thanks for answering, Dr. Chahine,  However, I have none of those triggers (smoking, drinking, diabetes.)  However, your answer may be of help to others.

No sufficient data about the progression of carotid disease, but for sure, cholesterol alone is not the main factor of internal wall damage. Most probably you have one of the three most popular triggers of that phenomenon:
1- Tobacco (smoking)
2- Alcohol (drinking)
3- Uncontrolable high Glucose level (Diabetes)

Try to answer yourself
and take adequate serious and responsible measures
