Help needed

Dear all,

This is my first time in this site and I joined to be able to participate in this forum.
I am 34 years old and I believe I have OCD. I believe I have it since I was young however in some moments of my life got worst. When I was young I remember my mom took me to the doctor because I was constantly washing my hands until they got purple and dry.
A couple of years ago I noticed I was having some phobias regarding some specific places, like plains and trains and I went to the doctor and got better with some anxiety pills.
I feel that I always have had phobias with diseases, specifically with HIV. Since last September I took 4 HIV and Hep C tests because I was diagnosed with Oral Lichen Planus by my dentist.

After 4 tests I was getting confident that everything was ok, however since now I am trying to get pregnant with my partner and because of that I went last Wednesday to do some blood test to my hormones and now I am panicking because I am not sure that the nurse used clean materials to take my blood for test.
My boyfriend tells me that I am being paranoid, however I cannot stop thinking about that. I saw that the nurse took everything from a drawer and took a plastic protection from what I think was the syringe and in the end everything was properly disposed, however I am still afraid and concerned with HIV and Hep. C in case she used unclean materials. And I see already a 3 months nightmare in my life until the day I will be able to test again.

Can you help me? Are my concerns unwarranted? What should I do? Do you think this is the OCD or my fears that she used unclean materials make sense ?

Thank you all

OCD is like this.  Did you have more stress last summer than usual?  My OCD spikes with increased stress in my life.

As for getting pregnant, I did it and I have OCD.  My kids are in college now so don't worry (I know right!) about what kind of mother you will be.  Frankly, If I can do it anybody can!

Not anymore. I gradually left sertraline a few years ago by doctor indication and since then didn't take anything else.
I was feeling ok until last summer when I started to feel again.

You need to learn CBT from a psychologist.  Are you still on the sertraline?

Dear JGF25,

Thank you for your reply!!
I did a treatment a couple of years ago with sertralina and I got better and now I feel ok in plains, trains and other closed places.

But my obsession with desiases remained. Apart from that didn't do any other treatment.

I went through the link you sent and I can see that alone I will not be able to win this phobia. I feel embarrassed with my obsessions and I only share with my boyfriend who is very supportive but doesn't understand. For him is enough the fact that the lab where I did the tests is the best in our country and he doesn't feel the need to see everything.

What kind of treatment should I try. I am trying to get pregnant ... Imagine if I manage and then the baby will have to deal with a mom like me. If I am like his with me imagine with a little baby.

I think your concerns are unwarranted.  I think this is all about OCD.  OCD is about doubt.  Have you ever sought treatment for your OCD?
