Granulosa tumor

I was recently diagnosed with  a stage 1a granulosa tumor. I have had a complete hysterectomy.  My consultant tells me my risk of a recurrance is hightened even though it was stage 1a as the tumor was 15cm.

He has also given me a copy of the pathology report which says that mitotic avtivity was high, upto 17 mitotic figures per ten high power field, and the cells showed moderate nuclear pleomorphism.

Can anyone tell me what this means - does it relate to the grade of the tumor.

Can you give any indication/stats on the liklihood of a recurrance given the pathology of my tumor?

hi there,

I would like to refer you to this website fro more information:

Granulosa Cell Tumour Foundation New Zealand
www.gctf.org.nz

In general, after surgery, women with granulosa cell tumors will be checked closely over the years. I check a CA 125 and an estradiol level. As these tumors produce estrogen, if I see the estrogen level rise, I will do a scan.

best wishes

I was diagnosed with granulosa cell tumors in 1998.  I had a total hysterectomy also.  For 6 years I had blood work- CA125 and Anithibum-A.  These markers were not good markers because in 2005 I had a hernia and I had a c-scan done.  At that time, they found 3 more granulosa cell tumors in adbomen and pelvis area.  In 2006, I started have diffuculty breathing.  I had c-scan and chest x-ray done.  My pulmonary doctors just said I had fluid in my lower right lung.  I told them  them that I read of the internet that these tumors can move to the lungs. But they insisted that it wasn't this.  So Dec. 2007, I had more c-scans and I went to see a thoriaic surgereon..  He operated on my right lung and removed two granulosa cell tumors.  Now my oncolgist want me to do chemo therapy and try to shrink other tumors in my diaghgram.  Have anyone else used chemo on granulosa cell tumors?
