blood clot after 6 months of hysterectomy

My mom had TAH and after 6 months she started getting a pale pink discharge. The doctors said she had fibroid which became cancerous so they had to perform the hysterectomy, something called lyeomyosarcoma. The doctor checked her in the clinic after 6 months and she had a blood clot the size of a fist that came out straight after the doctors examination. Looked like a dark jelly. The doctors said its a growth again. What I don't understand is that when they did the TAH 6 months ago they also checked if the cancerous cells were spreading at that time the answer was negative. Now what is happening to her. She also has a clear vaginal discharge. It smells a bit like an open sore..

Hi there,
it does not sound like a fistula.

I would strongly recommend that your mother stop taking the premarin. Sometimes LMS can be stimulated by estrogen.
take care

After my moms hysterectomy in January the doctors here confirmed that there was nor spread, think they had a biopsy of the lymph nodes done.

Just 2 weeks ago she had a slight pinkish discharge. And then clear discharge to this date. She had her first checking on Tuesday. Just about 5-10 minutes after the doctor finished examining her she felt something come on. It was a blood clot which looked like a jelly mass. she is hospitalised at the moment.

After that time she did not have any bleeding. There is only a clear vaginal discharge. She has the urinary catheter on. There is a slight pain she is experiencing which according to her is similar to holding your urine for a long time. (that is the time the vaginal discharge also comes out)

She's also on Premarin tabs 0.625mg once a day.

Maybe I am grasping at straws but is it possible that she has some kind of fistula. Even though she was stopped from doing heavy work she continued with housework and also lifting heavy things.

Dear Bhan,
I am so sorry to hear about your mother.

A leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a malignant tumor of the muscle of the uterus. Benign muscle tumors of the uterus are called fibroids.

Unfortunately, LMS can be very aggressive. It is not rare for a woman to experience a recurrence within 6 months of surgery. Cells from the tumor escape and travel in the blood stream. 50% of women with LMS will have metastases to the lungs at the time of diagnosis.

Unfortunately, chemotherapy is not very effective for this cancer. Drugs that have been used include: gemzar, taxotere, adriamycin, ifosfamide, taxol.
Radiation should be considered to try to control bleeding from the vagina.

Your mother should have a scan to look at the rest of her body to see if there are any other signs of the cancer.

Please keep in touch
best wishes
