diagnosis question

Hello Ladies,
My question today is;
After my hysterectomy i was staged 1a, I am a little confused??? please help
I originaly had a cyst/tumour removed, the patholoy results showed a mixture, of malignant, benign, and borderline cells. It was a mucnous carcinoma. Only a small amount of malignant cells, but the actual tumour/ cyst was pretty big, on the scan the solid area appeared very small in relation to the size of the tumour/ cyst.

When I had my hysterectomy all was clear apart from, they said there were borderline cells in the 1 ovary.

Is this a borderline tumour?
or a borderline that has turned malignant?
Or just a mucinous carcinoma?

Many Thanks

Hi There,

For a diagnostic label, one would go with the most serious condition which is invasive cancer. You had a small focus of invasive cancer inside a benign cyst. There was also a borderline component which is a slow growing malignancy. Because all your other biopsies were normal, your cancer is a stage Ia (confined to the ovary with no surface involvement). That is great. You just need checkups but no need for chemo or radiation.
best wishes

Hi Ellie I was really pleased to read your post its such good news that we  were blessed to have this dreadful disease found early. My Complex Cyst was Endometroid cancer Stage 1a with a second tumour within the Uterus Stage 1a also my lymph glands were biopsied and no spread. I am having regular monitoring with no requirement for Chemotherapy.  Take care keep in touch
