I can't do it either, plus I live in an apartment where I hear my neighbors all the time so I think they can hear us too and my hubby really against him crying so the neighbors wouldn't complain about baby crying too much, with formula babies usually have no problem sleeping longer cause it takes more time to digest it, will see how it goes for us, hopefully he will sleep through the night soon!

The cry it out method has crossed my mind but I don't think I would be able to do that. Hearing my son cry hurts me and I immediately want to pick him up. I know this won't last forever and he'll sleep through the night when he's ready. He sleeps beter some nights and others not so much

@nesik:  My hubby was the same way and Im not crazy about the idea either but i had gone a week with zero sleep and had to do something. The frst night I went into the room every 5 mins and stayed for 2 mins NOT picking him up though. After 30 mins i realized that me going into the room was actually escalating him so I stopped going in and in less then 10mins he was out. He woke up a few times that night and i juat let him fuss it out. He was back asleep in less then 4 mins. When he gets super tired now he may cry a but but only for like 2-3 mins. I do bottle feed him but formula. He gets 6oz and 1.5 tbsp of rice cereal. I also cluster feed him b4 bed. Usually 4oz @ 3 +5pm. Hes a very hungry little boy but has slowed down a bit. He sleeps 12 hrs with no feeds now and it hasnt affected him at all. Mind you his weight has neve been an issur hes always been on the bigger side.

@sharichajewski: I know it works but my husband wouldn't let me use the cry it out method and I'm not sure if I would be ok with him crying too long, how long did your son cry before falling asleep? Do u bottle feed him? If so how much does he eat before bed time?

My son just turned 5 months and ive been giving him rice cereal for about a month. They say to wait until 6 months but I got the ok from my doc. Some babies need more to feel full. As for the sleeping thing sorry i just read what you ladies were talking about and i had to sleep train my son to sleep through the night. The older he got the worst he started to sleep. By 4 months he was up 5-6 times and i had to feed or rock him to sleep. Now i lay him in his bed awake and he falls asleep on his own and sleeps all night long. I did the cry it out method with him and it worked wonderfully. He only cried the first night and has gone down without a tear since. Im currently training him during naptimes because he refused to sleep in his crib during the day. Its such a hard struggle but any babe can be taught how to sleep you jist have to find the right method for them:)

Yes I nurse him in the morning, I have another problem now lol my son rolls  on to his tummy in his sleep and it's probably uncomfortable for him so he cries and wakes up more often because of this, even when swaddled he rolls right on to his tummy and screams right away, now I need to figure out something for him not to roll all night.

Yes they are very close in age! I'm beginning to think that he won't grow out of it either. And like you said he might need help on learning how to. I am going to start giving him water and see how it goes. My son also fusses a lot when I first put him down in his crib it takes him a while to get settled. So you nurse him when he wakes up in the morning?

I don't think he'll grow out of it, that's what I thought with my first but didn't know a lot of stuff, it seems that some babies sleep through the night on their own by 2-3 months, and some babies need some help to learn how to, I know that cry it out method works for some too but I can't do this so I'm using water. He drinks about 1 oz, at first he drinks fast and when he starts to slow down I take it out and rock him and he goes to sleep, now he sleeps 4-5 hours before waking up for a feeding, I was afraid at the beginning of how much water he would drink but I think its fine cause he's a really chubby baby so its not going to hurt him to eat less calories at night, I haven't started solids yet, I will start closer to 6 months maybe in two weeks, our babies are very close in age, my son is going to be 5 months on the 4th.

@nesik Yes I do swaddle my son. He actually won't go to sleep without it! And I have to rock him to sleep too. Does your son drink a lot of water or just a little bit before going back to bed? He'll be 5 months on the 9th and I keep telling myself he'll grow out of it. Have you started baby food?

@Suzy93 I think its working, my friend suggested giving water at night, she said she taught made her kids to sleep through the night like this, my son definitely sleeps better than before, he likes to sleep with me too but I'm trying always to put him back cause with my first she really really got used to sleeping near me and when she was older it was impossible to put her in the crib and I just never had a good night sleep till I weaned her. Do u swaddle your son at night?

@nesik Oh wow I've never heard about giving water. Has it been working for you? My son sleeps good some nights and others no. He's getting used to sleeping in bed with me though :(

@Suzy93: if he wakes up in an hour or two I give him pacifier or try to rock him back to sleep and if he's acting hungry I give him plain water in a bottle, he drinks a little and goes to sleep, I did this for a couple of days now he sleeps till 3 or 4 am, before he would wake up 2-3 times till the middle of the night,  so he wasn't really that hungry, just got used to the schedule, how does your son sleeping now when u add rice cereal?

My daughter just turned 5 months on Sunday and I have been giving her rice cereal for well over a month now. I mix it with fruit as well. I did just straight cereal for about two weeks then started adding in the fruit. She also gets a vegetable in the evening. So I definitely would start giving your baby some.

Good for you! What things have you done to help him sleep through the night?

Some babies start to sleep through the night on their own and some need to be taught to do this, baby gets used to the feeding schedule and wakes up cause its time to eat not cause he's hungry, I'm trying to teach my son to sleep through the night, now I'm down to 1 feeding in the middle of the night, in a week or two I hope he will sleep through the night, I still have to get up a couple of times to give him pacifier but at least I don't have to feed him every 2 hours, its only day 3 of a good night sleep and it feels good :)

Why do you think they sleep less? I feel like as they get older they should be sleeping more. I did try the rice cereal though and he slept a little longer. so that was good

@nesik he used to sleep a stretch of 5-6 hours but now I'm lucky if he sleeps 3. I will try this though! Did you have to use a different bottle?

I read other posters say they put 1tsp in a bottle, I'm breastfeeding my son, in the evening he is constantly eating, well not eating but snacking cause I can never transfer him to the other side and one side only is not enough for him so yesterday I bought rice cereal to try, I pumped milk and put only half of a teaspoon cause I didn't know how it would be and if he would eat it, he finished the bottle and I had a better evening to spend with my daughter cause he was sleeping peacefuly, he didn't sleep through the night as I was hoping he will but it was a better evening of all evenings in the past month, does your baby sleeps through the night?

I slowly added the rice cereal to my first's bottles around 4-5 months. It filled him up alot better! My second is only 1 month and i am about to start doing it for her because she doesn't ever seem to get full lol

I think 6months is when you start them on solids. Is that what you mean? I'm not quite sure what baby cereal is.
