Slightly weird background, I went into a reproductive endocrinologist (only one who wasn't afraid to treat a former eating disorder despite not wanting a baby) and came out diagnosed with PCOS (her specialty, ironically). I had orthorexia when I was 18/19 and was around 70 lbs at 5'5" 6 years ago. I recovered completely on my own with no intervention and my weight shot up (uncontrollably, trust me) to 170. It has remained like that for 6 years despite my best efforts and nearly two weeks of not being able to eat more than 400 calories per day after wisdom teeth removal (long story, but I exercised anyway). Weirdly, I also don't seem to be able to gain weight. I ate over 3,500 calories per day for two weeks and my weight didn't budge an ounce. It really bothers me because I don't want to hurt my body by keeping it at what I consider a high weight (weirdly perfect weight distribution allows me to be a size 10-12 despite being at that weight). I don't have a lot of weight on my stomach or centered in any particular area. My glucose was 87 and my HbAc1 5.3. Every lab was normal except the DHEAS...678. My testosterone was 46 (gynecologist said it was fine, endo said it was "high," but my healthy friends are around there, too). My LH:FSH was 7.3 and 7.2 and my prolactin and estradiol was perfect. I had a scan done and my ovaries are perfectly normal/unremarkable. My thyroid hormones were normal (very low end, but normal). I don't have bad skin though I sometimes have trouble around my period and I'm practically a hairless wonder except my head (normal hair amount, no hair loss). I get periods once a month, about 5-7 days with 1-2 being moderately heavy. I have no cramps and no indication I even have my period aside from the obvious. Cortisol test came back as 1.1. My periods are around (just started counting) 26-27 days, I've never skipped a single one except with the eating disorder. I do not have insulin resistance according to my doctor, and, despite insisting PCOS insulin resistance causes all the symptoms, I don't qualify even close as a pre-diabetic. The endo could not answer any of my questions, insisted DHEAS was produced by the ovaries (other doctors say adrenals), told me I was probably infertile (no indication), and told me to lose weight (but that's what I was asking her about since I have tried everything reasonable under the sun!). She also told me she wouldn't treat me for anything since I have NO symptoms. I'm sorry for the novel, but why do I have PCOS with next to no symptoms and couldn't a history of a "severe/should have died" eating disorder contributed to my adrenal issues (she did no further bloodwork on them despite ridiculous DHEAS number).
Thank you!
