In Need of a GOOD Physician.....PCOS

Good evening,

I am writing on behalf of my 15 yrs old sister who was diagnosed with PCOS last week. She got her first period in 4th grade and other than that she was ok.  Then her periods became more and more irregular.  My mother took her to the gyn and other doctors a number of times, but they all said it was a hormone problem and that she would grow out of it. Indeed it was a hormone problem but not the type they thought.

So it is a known fact that thyroid  problems run in my family ( my mother and others). My mother noticed that my sister was having similar symptoms to her; the excessive weight gain, the short-temperedness etc. and decided to take my sister to the doctor in August...she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.... and immediately she began treatment.  She got tablets and she was suppose to follow a strict diet however she did not stick to the diet.

She just had her 3 month check-up and she is now diagnosed with PCOS.  It's hard for me to accept this so I can imagine her.  I have been reading up on it along with my parents (who have already bought books) trying to become more familiar with PCOS.

The next task is for her to get other opinons, run tests and try to get treatment, but the problem is we live in the Caribbean and the few gyns on our island are not familiar with PCOS and they have not had experience with patients who have PCOS.  By the way the doctor who diagnosed was neither a gyn or lived on the same island as us....

So I am asking anyone to please let us know the Doctors who you have been going to and thier contact info so that my sister can be treated as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance,

Tajh
