just diagnosed

Okay this might be a little long but here goes. I have been on my period since sept 5th of 2009 and have been going thru lots of tests and was put on thyroid meds and now metformin 500mg twice a day. I would love for it to work but have a friend that has taken it with no results.I am wondering if anyone has taken this medicine and had results with it. I just need to know if I am wasting my time. I am very anemic and eshausted.
