risk of high altitude in first trimester

My 41 year old wife just became miraculously pregnant thanks to IVF. We want to take a vacation at the end of August, but we're wondering how advisable it is to go to a place at a high altitude such as in Colorado. She would be about 8-9 weeks pregnant, then. Above what altitude would there be risks? 5,000 ft or more?

congratulations and best wishes to you and your wife!!

i second the advice to talk with your OB/GYN about high altitude travel.

i am also newly pregnant, and just spoke with my doctor today about a planned round trip flight from n. america to europe in late august. she said go for it. for me, the benefits of spending time with family-- such as happiness, stress relief, etc.-- far outweigh the extremely minor risk. however, this is different from actually spending time at a high altitude, since plane cabins are pressurized, etc.

all the best!!

Being that it is a MIRACULOUS conception, through ivf, f I were you're wife, I'd wait 'till the 1st trimester passed b4 taking ne vacations.  That's just to be on the safer side.  Being on the safe side, b careful w/every step she takes and every move she makes, just like in the Police/Sting song.  "I'll Be Watching You".  But, in your case, God is watching you.  Take care, b careful, and prayers to you & yours for a HH pregnancy & delivery, Amen.

I have heard different agreements/disagreements regarding this topic. Your best bet would be to have your wife talk to her OB about it.  I always say better safe then sorry!

Congrats on the Baby that is so awesome!!! I am sure you guys are over the moon!!!!!!
