I had water birth and it was awesome. It was with my last baby and I hope to be able to do it again with this one. My little girl was healthy and had no complications from it or anything else. It was amazing and better for me and baby. It helped with my pain and there was no mess on me that needed to be cleaned although I still took a shower after. For baby there was a transition period from small warm wet womb to the cold dry open air. Baby had a chance to stretch out and feel a slight temperature difference then was introduced to the air. If I had a choice I would not do it any other way.

I delivered my last two babies at home in a birthing pool with a liner that was sterile and never even out of the box until the day of the birth. No issues. It was awesome.

I had a friend that had a water birth and her baby boy was born healthy, then a few days after he ended up getting a nasty staph I infection from being born in the water.  Long story short, he spent 2.5 mos in the nicu fighting the infection that almost killed him.  He now has a scar covering his entire abdomen from the infection. All because he was born in the water.  Germs travel faster in the water and the risk of infection is greater.  After learning this, I would personally never choose a water birth.  Now laboring in the water is fine, but not delivering.  The risk is too great.
