Call your insurance co. Some make you wait til after baby some dont. With mine all I need is a prescription and then I have to go to a place on the list, most are medical suppliers, some are local pharmacies. With mine I have a choice to rent or buy. Definitely a call worth making!!
Excellent point--didn't think of that. But I'm doing a rental if needed. I want the super pump plus they give new tubing, supplies, & teaching. I could only pump with my first. I'm hoping to bf this time.
Thats not right. Tell them you might have to pump day one and you need to clean all the parts first.
Re: how soon asking for one I think you should call your ins. Humana told me they wouldn't reimburse until after the birth. Good point--Rx may be way to get a rental. If your ins won't cover you can always use HSA or Flex--if you have any $$ left after paying your lovely hospital bill. Ins plans & employed are fighting hard against affordable care act reqmts like women's health.
Im 40 plus weeks, but i started the process week 33....my insurance said I could have done it at any time. I suggest the sooner the better, so you know you got your reimbursment before you open it and wash the parts.
I had one from my daughter 2 years ago, but gave it away. This time my insurance said I had $500 to spend...I only spent $270 or something, so they said i could get another one.....I would rather get some diapers! I would talk to your ob as well,. If they write a perscription, I would think they would have cover it. The insurance co wont offer up the info without being asked!
At what point in your pregnancy can you ask for one?
The free pump is a one time deal. I received one a few years ago with what was to be my last baby. So I gave it away when finished with it. I did not qualify for another with my last baby but the Health Department loaned me one to use. After 4 months, they gave me a brand new one to keep.
Love Cake is right. My plan was grandfathered in so I don't get a discount or anything towards a pump.
Some insurance plans have grandfathered status and will not cover them. Always best to check with your individual plan. FYI, the ones that cover them will usually cover a hospital grade rental too. I had the rental and loved it for at home with my first. Planning the same this time if I need to pump.
They have been covering them for a few years now! I was pretty excited to get a $400 pump at no cost as well.
