pain pills and 18 weeks pregnant

I have been taking pain pills on and off for years for a back disc promblem. I never take the dose I hve too I always take less when not pregnant as well. The doctor says it is fine to take my vicoin 10/500 especially a tnight so I can sleep with no pain I use to take 2 whole ones b4 becoming pregnant now I take only a half of one at bed time. Has anyone else had to take pills while pregnant, I hate to do it but if not the pain is so bad!! i feel bad everytime I take them and the half of one does not take all the pain away but enough where I can be comfrtable and get some sleep.   so, let me know if you had to take pills while pregnant and ho much thanks

Hello i am 17 weeks and i have to take pain meds fo my back,i don't like to but i have to,i also feel quilty but my ob sent me to see a perinatal specialist, since i am a high risk,my age, heart disease, hig blood pressure, etc. and my Doctors assures me that the pain med will not hurt the baby.I also had a baby in 2000 and was on methadone and she is a happy, healthy 10 year old now.(I agree with sadiejo).Good luck and try not to worry so much, the baby will be fine, relax and enjoy being pregnant. If you have any more questions just ask,,Take care.

I had to take hydrocodone (generic for vicodin) when I was pregnant with my son in 2006.  I, too, did not like the idea of taking them, but the benefits outweighed the risks (so my OB-GYN had told me) and my son is a thriving, active and healthy 3 year old now.  Good luck to you!
