Yipee congrats. It's so exciting to see the lil HB :O) I wouldnt worry about teh timing being off if you O and implant late things can be off.
Wendy, my old DR scheduled my 1st u/S at 10 weeks...unfortunately we had a M/C...
my new dr actually scheduled my 1st U/S for 6 weeks with this PG, but I was really nervous about not seeing a HB so I scheduled it fi=or a week later....but now wish I would have stayed with the earlier appt (heard many good HB stories that early) good luck
congrats on your happy news - hope all continues to go well with the two of you - keep us posted
All dr.'s could be different in what happens during u/s but with mine we got to watch (they had a screen up on the wall in front of us that we could see, although I forgot my glasses so I couldn't really see it very well) The dr ended up turning the machine she was looking at so I could get a better view. She pointed out the yolk sac and what parts were the baby. She then asked if we could see the flicker that was the heartbeat. Then she measured the heartbeats per minute. She turned on the sound so we could hear it too. So cool! My ultrasound with my 1st dd was similar. So you go in about a week? Let us know how it goes!!!
Glad to hear someone else has heard of the different timing of the first u/s. And thanks for the letting me know that people have seen a hb that early. I am at 5 weeks and 2 days today. So when I go in I will be 6 weeks and 2 days. I can't wait until I can say I'm further along. These first weeks are tough huh!
During the u/s, are you able to watch the screen the whole time? And does the doc explain what they are seeing right then - if the size is right, the hb, etc. What does the heartbeat look like when you see it? It's exciting (and scary)!
I'm so happy for you that yours went well. If you are anything like me, I'm sure you were anxious about it. :o)
Hey lady! I left you a post on a thread on the fertility forum but since you've posted over here as well, thought I'd write you again! I'm so glad for you!!! You sound so relieved and happy! I think that the heartbeat sounds GREAT! Now you can breathe, huh - at least that was how it was for me.
Congrats! My RE said there is +/- a week in measuring on ultrasounds because it just depends where you put the calipers. A couple pixels away and the measurement will be different! Your HB is great so I wouldn't worry - that is most important at this stage!! Best of luck!!
Great News!!!! Glad everything went good. I wouldn't worry at all about the dates being off a bit. The heartbeat was good and everything will be fine! Can't wait till my first u/s on thursday (7weeks).
Thanks ladies!
WendyG: It's funny you say that about ultrasound timing because with my old dr. he scheduled the 1st one at 8 weeks. When I changed dr.s the new office's policy was nothing before 12 weeks! I was kind of surprised. However my dr said because of my previous m/cs I could come in at 8 weeks. I guess it's just the particular drs office. I have another appt. on Thurs that goes over insurance (like what's covered, how many ultrasounds insurance will allow, ect) then she is requesting that I come in next week to see that everything is progressing the way it should. I don't think 6 1/2 weeks is too early. I know many people that saw their baby with a hb at that time! How far along are you right now? Good luck at your appt. I'm sure it'll go smoothly! :)
CONGRATS nwmom! That must have been so exciting for you two! I've heard that ovulation can vary greatly from month to month with some people, so that could be what happened. I'm curious about the timing on the first ultrasound. I have one scheduled when I'm about 6 1/2 weeks. A friend of mine lives in Calif. and hers was at 8 weeks, and when she moved to Oregon, with her next child, it was done there at 10 weeks. Maybe different docs do it at different times, or different states have different standards?... I hope that I'm not going too early! But if that's what the doc ordered, I have to believe they wouldn't schedule me to come in at 6 weeks if it was too early. My hubby and I are nervous about that first appt. and don't think we could wait any longer anyway! Ugghhh!
Congrats!! that is so wonderful,.. I wouldn't worry about the details.. there is so much variablity.. enjoy.. Congrats MOM!!
