Hormones after birth

I gave birth to my 3rd child at age 39.  It has been 16 months since I gave birth.  My periods are irregular (i.e.; 1 month bleed normally 7 days) the next month I only bleed 2 days.  Could I be starting perimenapause so soon after giving birth or could my hormones be off?  I would appreciate any suggestions as to where to start first.  Thanks!

Thank you for your response.  I actually haven't felt "right" since giving birth and actually had a thyroid test done (per my request) by my PCP about 6 months after my daughter was born-it was normal.  I have an appt. with my Ob on January 23rd-so I hopefully will get it figured out.  Are you perimenapause?  (I hope that I am not being too forward in asking) I feel like I am going insane at times and I really feel like it's my hormones-never had any problem at all with my periods before

Again, Thanks for the post.

It could be a little bit of both, but I would think after 16mos your hormones would have leveled out.  My periods were irregular too, after I delivered my son at 43.  I would have cycles that lasted 7 days, then some 3 days....some very heavy with blood clots, others very light.  Maybe mention it to your Ob next checkup.
