Is there anybody else out there in my boat??

Hello!  I can across your forums in a google search and as much as I can't believe I'm doing this, I'm posting!  Here's my story.  I'm 40 (almost 41), unmarried and have no children.  In my wildest dreams I would never imagined that I would be unmarried and childless at my age.  I have never attemped to get pregnant and am considering artificial insemination.   I have seen a fertility specialist and am waiting for the "magic" 3rd day to have blood work done which will be in the next week or so.  I have a very good government job and am an Auntie to three wonderful children who I adore, but still feel like there is a huge void in my life.  Just wondering if anybody else out there has been or is where I am.  I'm nervous about this whole thing in a weird sort of way.

Hi there and welcome!  There have been many women here over the years in the same boat.  Right now we have one single lady that I know of for sure who is doing the same thing as you.  Personally, I think it's wonderful.  I also found myself 40 and childless.  I met my husband at 35 and married him at 37.  We began trying almost immediatly.  It finally happened for us at 40 and my amazing son was born one week before my 41st birthday.  We are currently at work on no. 2.

If this is what you want then go for it!!  Don't let anyone deter you.  We "mature" moms do get negative comments from time to time and you may even hear some negativity about doing it on your own.Always remember that  you are the only one who can decide when the best time is for you to have a child and the circumstances under which you choose to do that.  Clearly you have put thought into this and I have no doubt you will be a wonderful mother.  I wish you nothing but the absolute best.  As we say around here...SSBD to you!!!!  (super sticky baby dust)
