Just wanted to write and say its nice to see others in my age group having children. I'm 39 6 weeks, and scared as anything. My bf is 32 and does not have any children yet, just praying everything goes well

Hi! I'm 37 yrs old and 14 weeks pregnant with my first. I think I had a little bit of anxiety about my age but I quickly learned it's not worth it. You are making your baby! You need to be happy, eat good food and enjoy every day of your pregnancy. Stay positive and don't let crazy doctors scare you. A genetic specialist still recommended that I continue testing (amniocentesis!) even though my blood tests and ultrasound were normal. I politely thanked her for letting me know and hung up the phone. I'm not going to let them poke my belly with a needle, which carries a risk of miscarriage, just because I'm over 35. As much as I appreciate medical science, I think that our psyche strongly influences our immune system and it affects our well being in a great way. Medical science can't measure that! They only believe in what can be tested under the microscope.
Anyway, congratulations on your pregnancy. Creating a human being is a beautiful thing! Enjoy every minute of it. I wish you all the best. And for all the moms and moms-to-be: stay healthy, stay happy and keep smiling!

Due in Dec also and 38.  A little worried about the additional risks, especially because it was so difficult to get pregnant to begin with, yet we managed to do it on our own.  Our first US is scheduled for Thursday, so we are hoping everything goes well.  Congrats!

Right there with ya! I'm 36 and hit the 6 week mark today. We had 2 miscarriages last year, so we're really hoping this one is the one. Congratulations to you and your boyfriend! And here's to exchanging baby pictures in December :)

Congratulations on the pregnancy.  Im 39 also.  Im over 24 weeks pregnant and am due in July,  1 month before my 40th birthday.

Everything looks great.  Ive done all the genetic testing and have less than 5 % chance of the baby having a problem.  Doctors like to scare you with alot of tests and so called statistics.

Based on age,  the odds of me having a baby with downs syndrome was 1:130.  After the ultrasound and bloodtest,  it is now 1:1000 (the risk factor of a 30 yr old woman).  Also,  was screened for trisomys through blood test and my risk there is now 1:5000.

The fact is ,  even though my results were very good,  most women our age still go on to have healthy baby's even with a high risk factor.

Welcome to this forum.  There are alot of women here our age and older pregnant.

Try not to worry.  Enjoy the pregnancy.
