OPK as a pregnancy test question!

Yes, I've been on ***********.com about using OPKs as HPTS, but I wanted to hear the opinions of you guys.

After 3 negative HPTs up to 14DPO,  I took an OPK as a pregnancy test on 15DPO because I had no SIGNS of my period,  I got a smiley face, and saw two lines on the stick! I ran out for a pregnancy test and it was negative.  At any rate, today I do have a slight tinged brown something on my panty- liner (which usually equates my period wanting to come out because it is delayed by my progesterone suppositories), and my HPT came back negative again, but I am still wondering about the smiley face on my OPK? Has that happened to anyone before? It DEFINITELY isn't ovulation because my doc monitors it, so I know I did two weeks ago. Could it be detecting an old LH surge, or a chemical pregnancy that never  made it to monitoring on an HPT? I need feedback.  Thanks!!!!

Thanks you two! Well my doc says I'm not premenopausal and my LH isn't high. I've been spotting, so I think I will have my period soon and am seeing my doc early next week anyway. Maybe it was just one of those "near period" things like you mentioned Adgal. Either way, I wont eat sushi until I see my doc or get a full-fledged period.

That is odd and if you were 20, it would be more odd.  I do know that women our age who are perimenopausal or even women who are in menopause have high lh levels and opk's are very trustworthy.  When women are in menopause, they will have constant high lh.... the explanation is that though menopausal women have no more eggs and aren't having thier periods any more, the levels remain super high to keep trying... for the rest of our lives, evidently.  Like fsh.... it's only role is to mature an egg, well women who are completely in menopause have levels usually over 60 for the rest of their lives.

Sometimes an ovulation test will become positive when you are pregnant.  I have tried the same thing.  It isn't anywhere near definitive though...OPK tests for LH and HPT tests for HCG.  The hormones are somewhat similar, but different enough that this isn't reliable.

I have heard of women getting a positive OPK around the time their period is due as well.  Not sure why...I called ClearBlue to ask once and they couldn't answer.  But I know others this has happened to.

If no period in another day or two, try another HPT with first morning urine.  Or even better, I would get a Beta done...stuff like this can drive you crazy and I would be feeling just like you are right now.  Good luck.
