Pregnant at 39

Just wanted to introduce myself.  My name is Kelly and I just found out that I am pregnant (7 weeks today!) .  I was not using any kind of birth control (other than the removal method, remove before you know...) for more than two years.  We were not trying but knew that this type of birth control is not the most reliable.  Anyway we are happy but at my age I am a little scared.  I had my first son at 33.  I am now remarried and my husband will be 52 when the baby is born do he is a little unnerved also.  He has two daughters 26 and 20 from a previous marriage.  My son is 5. He was born 5-5-05.  Anyway is there anyone else out there pregnant at 39 or older with an older dad too?  I am concerned a little about multiple births and birth defects.  I really haven't told everyone yet either due to fact I had mis carried twice before in my mid twenties and it was very painful.  Really just wanting to reach out to others.

Hello, firstly warmest congtratulations! so happy for you-it gives me encouragement as we are trying desperatly for a sibling for our son born when I was 39. I am now 41(42 early summer) and we have been trying for 1.5 years, our son was completely natural but this time we have had 3 failed ivf's, tried clomid and are now just back trying natuarly. my husband is 47. I had no problems with my first baby and i was your age, i dont ovulate very regularly due to low body weight but still managed to conceive our son, fertility is never as straight forward as dr's tell us, i've read great stories of ladies conceiving when they've been told they have no chance. All the very best to you and your husband, and any tips you can give me please do, lots love melissa(in England)

Hi, and welcome to the club! Will be 42 in September when the baby is do.  My husband will be 52.  Like you, conceived naturally.  Didn't try to get pregnant, but didn't try not to.  I have had 2 mc's over 5 years ago, totally caught off guard after being told it probably would never had because of endometriosis.
Anyway, we are twelve weeks tomorrow and totally concerned with genetic issues.  I will be doing my first round of genetic testing Friday and we can't wait, but are scared to death.  Decided against cvs or amnio, history of miscarriages outweighs other risks for us.
Good luck, I know it's scary but enjoy it.  The odds are much better for you to have a healthy baby than not.
