What is the first thing your going to eat afterward?

So there is such a list of things we aren't really supposed to eat or drink while pregnant.  I am curious..what are you missing the most and what's the first thing you want after you give birth?  I have told DH that as soon as I am home I want Sushi (I miss it so much and am just craving it!) and a glass of wine.  That is going to be my reward for labour...lol.  What are you having?

Girl before I even read your forum I thought of sushi right away so I am with you on that one girl.  My hubby works at a body shop and for a tip this lady gave my hubby and his partner $100 gift cards for this sushi/japanese resturant that she owns and she also gave them some food sushi included.  I was dying b/c I could have the sushi but I will be able to once the babies are born.  Hope all is well with you and take care of yourself.  Your almost there girl.  I hope if you have time after your little one is born you will still stay on this forum.  Good night!!!

seafood is not bad for you in moderation as well.  I say grab a bacon wrapped scallop at that party (just don't eat the whole tray!)...  I ate crab boil (snow crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes) about once a week my entire last pregnancy, and aside from the fact that BOTH of my kids love crab legs now and unfortunately I am not made of money, they were both fine!!!  My OB said to knock myself out with it...  (I just couldn't eat seafood everyday,  he gave me limits (:))

I have been dreaming of Tiramisu, soft cheese, chocolate martinis, rum cake and seafood seafood seafood.  Crabcakes and Bacon wrapped scallops have been taunting me at every holiday party.  I cannot bear being pregnant over the Holidays anymore.  Oh yes lets not forget a rare, rare juicey steak where the cow has pretty much walked over to my dinner table and I am sittting with my knife and fork.  Sorry if I have grossed anyone out.

While pregnant I was obsessed with butter chicken, there wasn't enough insulin in the world to counteract the sugar probs from that for me (well there was but the dose was outrageous) funnily enough after I delivered I had it once and haven't had it since...... I think you just obsess about the things you can't have

I ate sushi during my pregnancy the doc at the maternity clinic said if I had been eating at the same place for years and had no problems then I could continue....

That "dinner" sounds delicious!!  Throw in a few grapes and some decent bread and I think we have all our food groups covered..!

Thanks for the info about the cheese.  I'm in Europe, so not sure how much of the cheese available here is unpasteurised, but I'm gonna have a look at some labels cos that would make my Christmas!

I did exactly that today. Talked to my OB and she said that even though she put it on the list, as long as it is pasteurized it is fine. She also said, just like you did, to read the labels and make sure they are before eating/drinking.

I had an OB appointment this morning and asked about cheeses, eggnog, sushi, etc.  Here are her comments.....Anything containing dairy or eggs needs to be pasturized.  Again, the vast majority of these products produced in Canada or the US are.  Just make sure to check the packaging.  On Sushi...technically it's a no no. However, if it is from a restaurant you have eaten at before and had no problems you are probably ok.  The tuna is not the best and of course there are lot's of rolls that are perfectly fine.  She won't actually recommend it, but if you use common sense and double check things your probably fine.  I certainly don't want to be the one to recommend these things, so please don't try any of them on my OB"s or my say so.  When in doubt double check with your own Dr. (my disclaimer..lol).

A frozen margarita or a beer.  I'm not a big drinker - will have a drink if we go out to dinner.  Theres just a thing when you CANT have something, you want it even more.

I ate sushi and breastfed my daughter with no problems. I will do the same with my son. Doc was aware and with my past 13 years working in ob/gyn and the medical field we always advised patients to eat it in moderation.
But to each their own...

re:chocolate: I was referring to the post by Sue68. I've been having dark chocolate throughout this pregnancy.

Amanda, good point about the cheese from Canada/USA... I should be less "Eurocentric" with my food habits and give it a try. I love goat cheese too. Now I am hungry!

OMG Port and soft cheese! I used to regularly make "dinner" of that combo on evenings I wasn't very hungry. lol... I am picturing a bottle of Taylor Fladgate 20yr and a huge chunk of camboozola, maybe some wensleydale with cranberries... *sigh*

Chocolate off limits?? I didn't get that memo. :) I've had very small doses of it the entire time I've been pregnant.

I also drink chocolate milk.

Yes, it's full of sugar and it does have caffeine, so just pace yourself, but you can have some!

I haven't given up chocolate...and I love that really dark chocolate as well.  Also, I checked into soft cheeses as I love them too.  Apparantly the ones made in US and Canada are pasturized, so they are ok.  Check the packaging.  I also love blue cheese, goats cheese, brie, etc. so I was very motivated to find out if they were really ok or not.  Again, made in the US or Canada for the most part are fine.  FDA laws require those to be pasturized.  Victoria, I miss eggnog as well, but the store bought stuff (not nearly as good) is pasturized and apparantly fine as well.  So we can have some of these yummy treats...hmmmm just reading about them is bringing on cravings...ha!

Right now, I would like some eggnog, LOL It's on my no-no list from my OB because of the raw eggs. DH and I usually have a glass of Mimosa on Christmas morning, but that won't be happening this year either, LOL

I know I will definetely love to have some crostini with parma ham and stilton accompanied by a glass of wine. I also miss tiramisu with real mascarpone cheese and eggs ... I am planning on going back to Italy after a couple of months and catch up with all the good stuff. One question, why is the chocolate offlimits?
