What is the first thing your going to eat afterward?

So there is such a list of things we aren't really supposed to eat or drink while pregnant.  I am curious..what are you missing the most and what's the first thing you want after you give birth?  I have told DH that as soon as I am home I want Sushi (I miss it so much and am just craving it!) and a glass of wine.  That is going to be my reward for labour...lol.  What are you having?

I ate sushi in my first pregnancy and I ate it in this one as well. Doc said it was ok as long as it was just a few times. After all in some countries that is all pregnant women dine on and their babes are fine. :)  (no lectures!!)

I know this sounds terrible but I really want a rum and coke after Gavin is born. ;) LOL  I miss that...

Yeah. Sushi & Sake!

I also miss fresh lox & bagel... there's a great place where I used to go and have that for breakfast with a big ol' Blanche de Chambly mimosa. (Awesome Canadian white ale with orange juice-- YUM)

I had gestational diabetes so my first meal was a cup of coffee and a slice of  cake.  I even have a picture of that happy moment  :)

ohhh yummy, lox!!  I don't even remember the last time I had a bagel with lox and cream cheese on it...I will have to put that on my list.  And no judgment here Quinn'smomma.  I had a few pieces of sushi once this pregnancy when I just couldn't stand it.  (Warren was eating it!!)  No problems, but I just worried to much being that I am ultra paranoid about certain things.  It's actually pretty unlikely you will get sick from it.  Still, I want a whole meal of it...and that lox!!!

Ooh, I am going to cram myself full with sushi too.  Then it will be followed by a large chunk of dark chocolate ( 70 % cocoa ) chased down with a huge mug of coffee with lots and lotsa cream !  I miss this trio so much - but, worth the sacrifice !  Its only - what - like 7 months more .....

I know I will definetely love to have some crostini with parma ham and stilton accompanied by a glass of wine. I also miss tiramisu with real mascarpone cheese and eggs ... I am planning on going back to Italy after a couple of months and catch up with all the good stuff. One question, why is the chocolate offlimits?

Cheese and red wine!!

It's going to be SO hard this Christmas not having soft cheese/blue cheese washed down with a few glasses of port!

Right now, I would like some eggnog, LOL It's on my no-no list from my OB because of the raw eggs. DH and I usually have a glass of Mimosa on Christmas morning, but that won't be happening this year either, LOL

I haven't given up chocolate...and I love that really dark chocolate as well.  Also, I checked into soft cheeses as I love them too.  Apparantly the ones made in US and Canada are pasturized, so they are ok.  Check the packaging.  I also love blue cheese, goats cheese, brie, etc. so I was very motivated to find out if they were really ok or not.  Again, made in the US or Canada for the most part are fine.  FDA laws require those to be pasturized.  Victoria, I miss eggnog as well, but the store bought stuff (not nearly as good) is pasturized and apparantly fine as well.  So we can have some of these yummy treats...hmmmm just reading about them is bringing on cravings...ha!

Chocolate off limits?? I didn't get that memo. :) I've had very small doses of it the entire time I've been pregnant.

I also drink chocolate milk.

Yes, it's full of sugar and it does have caffeine, so just pace yourself, but you can have some!

OMG Port and soft cheese! I used to regularly make "dinner" of that combo on evenings I wasn't very hungry. lol... I am picturing a bottle of Taylor Fladgate 20yr and a huge chunk of camboozola, maybe some wensleydale with cranberries... *sigh*

re:chocolate: I was referring to the post by Sue68. I've been having dark chocolate throughout this pregnancy.

Amanda, good point about the cheese from Canada/USA... I should be less "Eurocentric" with my food habits and give it a try. I love goat cheese too. Now I am hungry!

I ate sushi and breastfed my daughter with no problems. I will do the same with my son. Doc was aware and with my past 13 years working in ob/gyn and the medical field we always advised patients to eat it in moderation.
But to each their own...

A frozen margarita or a beer.  I'm not a big drinker - will have a drink if we go out to dinner.  Theres just a thing when you CANT have something, you want it even more.

I had an OB appointment this morning and asked about cheeses, eggnog, sushi, etc.  Here are her comments.....Anything containing dairy or eggs needs to be pasturized.  Again, the vast majority of these products produced in Canada or the US are.  Just make sure to check the packaging.  On Sushi...technically it's a no no. However, if it is from a restaurant you have eaten at before and had no problems you are probably ok.  The tuna is not the best and of course there are lot's of rolls that are perfectly fine.  She won't actually recommend it, but if you use common sense and double check things your probably fine.  I certainly don't want to be the one to recommend these things, so please don't try any of them on my OB"s or my say so.  When in doubt double check with your own Dr. (my disclaimer..lol).

I did exactly that today. Talked to my OB and she said that even though she put it on the list, as long as it is pasteurized it is fine. She also said, just like you did, to read the labels and make sure they are before eating/drinking.
