What's a really good breast pump?

Is Medela (sp?) still top of the line?  I would like to get one that doesn't break down in a short time.

I rented the hospital grade Medela Symphony and it was $2.25 per day. I borrowed my friends Pump in Style and liked the Symphony better because the initial pulsation seemed to bring the milk let down faster. My friends PIS was an older model though so not sure if the newer model has the same feature or not. There are a lot of them on eBay for sale so you could probably get one cheaper there. You just need to buy your own tubing.

I have a TON of the 30 ml and 80 ml Medela bottles that I got from the NICU so if anyone would like them please PM me.

I have the Madela Pump in Style...I got it when I went back to work after having my son in 2000. I used it for over a year, and I've loaned it to three friends since then, who all used it for several months. It's still going strong, and I'm planning on using it with *this baby. It was expensive - I think they're about $300 now - but well worth it, I think.

I rented a Medela from hospital for 6 months. It was 50.00 a month so I finally just broke down and bought one. If you decide to buy one the Medela pump in style is great. Happy breast feeding!

I think that might be the way that I go...i.e. renting from the hospital.

So with all the pumping, you still lost your milk supply?

I rented the Medela Symphony from a local hospital.  I wanted to rent before i bought to be sure it worked form me.  I am so glad I did that...my twins never latched on well and after 4 months of pumping, I had very little milk and had to stop.  I was so glad I had not paid major bucks for a pump that I would have only used a short time.  Plus, renting allows you to try different ones before you decide to buy.

I rented the medela from the hospital.  It worked great but the ones from the hospital are not portable at all.

I have had my Medela double pump since my dd was born in Sept 2006. I used it through her and my ds whom was born May 2008. It's still going strong. If you EVER think you have ANY issues with it, there customer service is phenominal. I thought I had an issue and they next day fed-ex'd me several things for free. Great company ;)
