Anyone getting a DOULA?

Is anyone else getting a doula?  I really like the woman I met with, but it is really expensive.

I was lucky and had an AMAZING nurse who acted as a doula although due to my body it didn't stop me from having to go through other measures (epidural, c section ). If you can't afford one, maybe look to a friend who has been through the process a few times to see if they could help.

I hired a doula. My sister had one and so have a few of my friends.  For me, it's totally worth the expense.  I would like to have a natural birth and the stats show that women who have doulas are much more likely to have natural, unmedicated births and the c-section rate is much lower than the national average.  Also, I like that there will be a calm, informed person in the room at all times... nurses are in and out of the room and the doctor only comes at the end, so having a knowledgeable person is comforting.  I also think it's the best option for a labor attendant... you can be in labor for many hours and its unrealistic to think that your husband will be able to be there the entire time... he will need to eat, rest, use the restroom, etc. and having a doula will allow him to do that.  My mom is an RN, so I know that she's more than qualified to help me, but having someone who's job it is to massage, get drinks, take photos, etc. is a much better option than relying on family.  Also, my doula has a back up, if she's sick or something happens then there is someone there to take her place.  If your support person is sick or tending to a sick relative, then who will be there to help you and your husband.  Do the research and read birth stories of women who used doulas, you will be on board in no time.

Doulas are great if you have the money and if you really need lots of support. But like me i cant afford one and my support team and doctors are amazing so i dont see the need for one. But if it makes you more comfortable in your pregnancy then thats what you should do. Ive only ever talked to one person who has had one and she loved it.
