addict to codiene and want to get pregnant

I am 34 years old and have one baby girl 6yrs old. I want to have another baby but from last 6yrs I am on codeine(rexcof) about 3 bottles a day. for me it is getting impossible to leave it. I am not sure that I conceived within few days or not. Please help me to let me know what the effect will be on baby if I take once or half a bottle a day. and if not then how to leave it.

there is a concern w/ codeine w/ cardiac malformation; previous to 2011 docs did not think there was too much problem w/ it, though it was scheduled cat c (animal studies--adverse effects; no controlled human studies). this does not nec. mean that your baby would have a cardiac defect, but that your baby would be at increased risk. it can also be hard on your kidneys long-term, and most likely other organs.
Honey I am so sorry you are on this stuff; it can be challenging to get off of. ASAM (american society of addiction medicine) can refer you to a savvy addiction specialist who can help you an appropriate, healthy and non-judgemental manner. their website is www.asam.org.

I also agree with the others.  And please know that you are not alone in having an issue with addiction.  So many many people have one addiction or another, and are able to successfully overcome it.  Help is out there for you, and I strongly urge you to seek it prior to conception.  If you have already conceived, then you must be open and honest with your Dr. so that he or she can help you work through this, and protect both you and your baby.  Please have no shame in asking for help...more people go through this or similar addictions then most realize.  All the best to you.

Totally agree with previous comment from Azwoman. Please get help before trying to get pregnant. It's not just physical effects, but emotional & psychological effects on a baby. I pray you have a support system of family & friends. I sincerely pray to God you have success in this.

My question for you is why havent you sought help yet? You need to be honest with your doctor or gyn and let them know whats going on.  That is alot of codeine you are taking. You are doing harm to your liver and internal organs and you are definitely an addict and need to see an addition specialist immediately. They can prescribe detox medications to help you get off this stuff. Yes this will harm a baby, especially in this dose. Get help please before getting pregnant.
