One of the best things you can do is try not to stress about it. For most, this happens quite easily and naturally, and stress can make the process much more difficult. It will feel awkward at first until you find a comfortable position that works for you, so don't feel defeated or beat yourself up if it takes some time to get the hang of it. Do talk to a lactation consultant, most hospitals will send one to see you. And if it were me, I would also suggest investing in a decent pump. I found it very helpful when my son was cluster feeding (growth spurt) that my husband could help. He also loved feeding our son, so he appreciated the pump as well. I didn't use a shield, but did keep a decent supply of nipple cream, although I was lucky enough not to have any real soreness or pain.
Your going to do great!! No worries, it will all come together. All the best to you.
I only have one baby and it was easy he actually latched on rite away first try. I doesn't hurt at all.
13 months! So jealous that's awesome! Thank u!

Hi I have one inverted nipple I wore a nipple shield briefly but my son had no trouble latching on. we also talked to a lactation consultant right after he was born and that was very helpful. Congratulations & good luck!!

Oh my gosh I'm so glad you told me that, I have been debating on if I should bring binkies in ny diaper bag.. thank you, I told my fanily not to rush to the hospital once they heard I was in labor because I am taking my time with breastfeeding and don't want to be rushed or feel over whelmed
It can be really stressful until the baby gets the hang of it, but it really is the most special thing. I had to use a nipple shield with my last baby because she was a preemie and had a hard time but after she figured out how to suck she did it on her own. My only advice would be don't give them a bottle or binkie until they are pro nursers or it is 10 times harder
Sometimes you can pinch the nipple and get it to stand out enough that they can latch; but like I said after awhile mine got used to breastfeeding to the point my 2 never had an issue
I also have inverted nipples I went out and bought nipple shields just incase I was unable to get her to latch on
Both me previous children would not stay awake to breastfeed so U ended up pumping and giving it to them in a bottle. I do have an inverted nipple and used a nipple shield for a bit but I found once I had been beastfeeding/pumping for a little while that the nipple got used to it and the baby wad able to latch without the nipple shield
